Mathias Deutsch lives in Hamburg, Germany. Apart from being an artist, he works as journalist, tattoist and part-time sausage seller.

GENERAL INFO

Mathias Deutsch.s work focuses on the conditions of living. Often crude, with strains of irony and cynism, it deals with imaginary architecture, sketches of circumstances and the aspects of everyday life in remote and not so remote spots of the world. Travelling is the driving force behind the works of Deutsch: the ever exchanging play of place and time coupled with a stream of conciousness that runs amok from time to time. Accordingly, his chosen media are those of documentarism and – as a sculpturer – of .arte poverag. He uses painting, drawing, collage, photography, writing. For (architectural) objects, he uses pieces from the garbage, cardboard, wood, glass and soap. Since 2005, the art of tattooing belongs to his strategies of communication, an act of integrating and/or trading imagery across continental and cultural borders.
